Townsville stands with Venezuela
Help Us Support People Affected by the Earthquakes in Venezuela 🇻🇪❤️
On 24 June 2026, two powerful earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) struck northern Venezuela within seconds of each other, devastating communities across the region.
Thousands of families have lost their homes and are now facing an uncertain future. Many remain in temporary shelters, with limited access to safe housing, clean water, food and other essential services.
We have created this fundraiser to support people affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela through Caritas Australia's Venezuela Earthquake Appeal. Working with its local partner, Cáritas Venezuela, Caritas is providing emergency assistance directly to affected communities and helping families begin rebuilding their lives.
Your donation will help provide temporary shelter and safe accommodation, clean drinking water, food and essential supplies, hygiene and sanitation, as well as support communities as they begin to rebuild.
Every donation, no matter the size, can make a real difference.

Our first Townsville community first fundraiser for Venezuela 🇻🇪
What started as a small idea between a group of us local became a very special day at Cotters Market on Sunday 9 August.
We began with a goal of raising $3,000 for the Caritas Australia Venezuela fundraiser. Honestly, we didn’t know what response to expect.
Over the weeks leading up to the event, people began donating, local dance groups offered their support and participation, and others helped spread the word by sharing our event flyer. Then on Sunday, the Townsville community showed up.
People stopped to learn about what families in Venezuela have been facing, donated, shared messages of hope, joined in the music and dancing and helped make our first event feel incredibly positive and connected.
We are especially grateful to Alex, whose immeasurable support, generosity and energy, together with his community drum circle helped bring the day to life. We are grateful for the support of Cotters Market, Global Dancing, Herencia Latina, Anaiz, and everyone who stopped by, we exceeded our original goal, raising $3,362 by the end of Sunday’s event. ❤️
For our team, it was a lovely reminder that even a small community can come together and make a meaningful difference.

We’re hopeful this is just the beginning, and we look forward to exploring a few more fundraising ideas in the weeks ahead. 🇦🇺❤️🇻🇪
