Emergency Fundraiser for Nepal

In unity with our 20 Nepalese team members here at Sawtell Catholic Care, we are supporting the brave people of Nepal by raising funds for the Caritas Australia Nepal Floods Appeal.

This will directly support families and communities who have been devastated by the recent flash floods.

We saw on the news how devastating the flood was, it wiped away everything in its path. Many survivors are still cold and in the dark at night, and the risk of disease grows every day. Caritas is already on the ground there helping.

Your donation will help deliver lifesaving support and assist affected communities to recover and rebuild.

Sawtell Catholic Care will match the donations made by our staff through this appeal, so every dollar you give will be double the support and kindness you are sending their way.

The funds you contribute will help ensure that Caritas and aid partners can work to provide this critical support to those who need it most.

Thanks to your selfless efforts, more people will be able to access the things they need, not only to survive today, but to rebuild in the future.

Appreciation and Thanks

Sawtell for Nepal - Solidarity and Support for the People of Nepal

Two weeks ago, Michael, Srijana, and Matt asked us to join Mary Help of Christians Parish and the wider community in Sawtell for Nepal, an appeal in collaboration with Caritas Australia to raise $5000 to support the people of Nepal.

We have doubled our target! As promised, SCC has matched the generous donations of staff and residents.

How is Caritas responding?

Caritas has mobilised emergency teams to affected areas and is working closely with government authorities,

local partners and humanitarian agencies to reach affected communities.

In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, Caritas established community kitchens to provide meals for families who lost their homes. 

What began as support for 300 families has now expanded significantly through more than 50 community kitchens operating across affected areas.

Together with partner agencies, Caritas is now providing:

  • Ready-to-eat meals for affected families

  • Emergency shelter materials and household essentials

  • Hygiene and WASH kits

  • Solar lighting for displaced households

  • Emergency medical support

  • Cash assistance for highly affected families

  • Essential medicines for damaged health facilities

Many communities remain difficult to reach, with some families still relying on host communities and limited food supplies while they wait for assistance.

Caritas is preparing for the next stage of the response, which will include temporary shelter, school kits for children, water and sanitation facilities, 

psychosocial support and early recovery activities such as debris clearance and livelihood restoration.

Humbling Generosity

Dear Donors, 

The response from SCC, MHoC Parish, FB post, and community has been humbling. When I met with our Nepalese staff two weeks ago we chose $5000 as our target, not thinking we would get there. Today as we close the appeal, we have passed $8500.

When natural disasters happen we often don't know how to react. Our thoughts, prayers, and material assistance is the best we can do for those affected. We are glad to have provided an opportunity for the generosity and compassion of so many people, such as you, to be directed to those who have lost everything.

On the ground here it is wonderful to see the reaction of our twenty Nepalese staff as they realise the support of the wider Australian community.

To those who have chosen to remain anonymous, remember that God sees everything that is done in secret, and it changes the world!
